Christian Gottfried Schönfelder learned violin making in his father’s workshop and earned his master’s certificate in 1755 at the age of 19. The original instrument is housed at the Bach House in Eisenach under inventory no. 1.1.1.35. It retains its original neck. All other components were reconstructed in the museum’s restoration workshop. In terms of style and construction, the instrument belongs to the historical Vogtland violin-making tradition.
