The original instrument is housed at the Brussels Museum of Musical Instruments and bears inventory number 1445. It is one of the few surviving “da spalla” instruments and has undergone only minor structural modifications. This applies not only to the neck-body joint but also to most of the components (tuning pegs, tailpiece, fingerboard, and possibly the bridge as well). The replica is therefore constructed strictly in accordance with the surviving original instrument. The only exception is the height of the sides, which may be made approximately 1.5 cm higher based on a nearly identical da spalla by J. C. Hoffmann. The model instrument is located under inventory no. 918 at the Leipzig Museum of Musical Instruments.
