The original instrument is in private ownership and, with a body length of 35.2 cm, is one of the smaller models. It is generally considered to be in its original condition. However, the extent to which all parts are original to the instrument is a matter of debate. For instance, it has a scale length of 13 cm and a nut that is positioned very close to the pegbox. It is therefore possible that the fingerboard is original to the instrument, or is at least old, but was moved to accommodate a desired increase in scale length. The fingerboard, which is veneered with ebony on the sides, is also puzzling, as there is no evidence of this in the iconography of the period.
